  • Ask before switching customer: an option under Tracking. When the window in front belongs to another customer, the top bar asks Switch to Fabrikam?; until you answer, time stays with the customer you were working for. Yes moves the time since then; no keeps it.
  • Missing hours: with your work days, work hours and break set (Settings → Tracking → Timesheet) and Check for missing hours on, Today shows what is missing this week and Reports the difference per day. The work hours moved there from Slack.
  • Billable or internal: mark a customer or project as internal (administration, training, sales); your own company always is. Reports show the billable and non-billable percentages per week, with the change against the week before, and per customer, with export; Today shows Billable this week.
  • SharePoint and OneDrive sites as customer folders: paste a site’s address on the customer page; its pages in the browser and documents opened from it in Office count for that customer.
  • The customer by tenant, workspace or project: the Azure, Fabric and Azure DevOps plugins pass on where you are (tenant, subscription, resource group, workspace, organisation, project). The question about unknown time can remember the answer for that resource group, project or workspace, and once a tenant or organisation belongs to a customer, what is seen on the same page is linked to that customer by itself.
  • Plugins’ log of unknown pages is off by default; turn on Note pages it does not know to report one.
  • Activity log for everyone: every program and site counts as a kind of work (email, meetings, chat, documents, development, research…), so the time per kind also shows without plugins or customers. The list shows things, sites (pages of one site together) or programs. Reports has What the time went to: per kind of work, program or site, next to the period before, to CSV or Excel. Optionally, entries without notes get the list of what you did. IDs can get names; IDs in a customer’s mail domains get the customer’s name.
  • Activity log privacy: a list of programs, sites and title words never to record, and Pause the activity log in the tray.
  • Plugins note pages they do not know: the Fabric, Azure and Azure DevOps plugins write the shape of such an address (without IDs or values) to their log, to report.
  • Activity log: HourWarden records what you work on, each document, page, mail, server or meeting and how long. Every entry in Review shows what it consisted of, and Add to notes puts that list in its notes; Today shows what you did today. It stays on this computer and is removed after 90 days.
  • Azure DevOps plugin: the work item, board, pull request, repository, pipeline run, release, test plan or wiki page you have open, with organisation and project; a work item is offered as the task. Counted as planning, code review, development, CI/CD, testing or documentation.
  • Azure plugin: the Azure resource you have open, its resource group and what you look at (configuration, logs, access control…), and the Microsoft admin centres. Counted as infrastructure, data, security and identity, monitoring, integration, AI, cost and governance, or administration.
  • Microsoft Fabric and Power BI plugin: recognises the report, semantic model, notebook, lakehouse, warehouse or pipeline you have open in the browser, and when you edit a semantic model; also Power BI Desktop, Tabular Editor, DAX Studio and SSMS on a workspace’s XMLA endpoint. The activity log keeps the tenant and workspace from the web-addresses plugin, and each Fabric item counts as a kind of work (reporting, data modelling, data engineering, data integration, data warehousing, real-time analytics, data science, administration); entries and Today show the time per kind.
  • Slack you choose: a switch per kind of slack (social media, video, news, shopping, games). For a social media or account manager, social media is work: turn it off and it is never counted or reminded about. Your own slack sites can have a kind (Funda: shopping), and 27 more sites are recognised, among them LinkedIn, Zalando, de Volkskrant and NPO Start. Sites are now recognised by their web address (with the web-addresses plugin) instead of only the tab title, so Reddit and Facebook pages count even when their title does not say so; games from Steam, Epic, Roblox, Riot and others, and browsers and Steam games on Linux, are recognised too. Music (Spotify) is not slack.
  • Calmer switching: a look at another customer’s window now counts for the current customer for a minute instead of 10 seconds (Ignore switches shorter than). A value you set yourself stays.

  • Suggestions on Today: customers HourWarden saw you work for during unknown time (by their domains, tenant or DevOps organisation), made with one click; plugins for the programs and sites you use.
  • Track your own work: a choice at the start of the setup guide for people who do not book hours per customer. All time goes to your company and Today puts what you did first.
  • Fix unknown time in one go: the Daily review groups unknown time by what was in front, to assign (and remember) per group. Tick several entries to change or delete them together, drag the start or end of an entry on the timeline, and undo a change for a minute.
  • Questions at the end of the day, if you like: the top bar does not ask during work; Today shows what is unknown.
  • Why this customer?: the top bar explains its choice, and Wrong customer moves the whole stretch to the one you pick.
  • Budget per week: hours per week for a customer on its page; Today shows each budget this week (amber from 80%, red when over) and Reports per week and customer.
  • Quieter settings: fine-tuning you never changed sits behind More settings.
  • Phone: a quick settings tile starts and stops the timer without opening the app, and Add the meeting I just had offers appointments from the phone’s calendar that ended in the last three hours.

  • One version for everything: the Windows and Linux app, the Android app and the server now always carry the same version number, released together.
  • New version notice on Linux and Android: the app says when a new version is out, with a button to its download page. These apps do not update themselves.
  • Portable Windows version: a zip without an installer; unzip it and run HourWarden.exe. It shows the same new-version notice.
  • PowerShell plugins removed: HourWarden only runs the WebAssembly plugins now. A PowerShell plugin that is still installed does not start; its status asks you to install its new version from the store. The plugin store has no PowerShell plugins any more.

  • Releases on hourwarden.com: Windows installer, Linux packages (.deb, .rpm) and the Android app built and signed by GitHub Actions from a version tag, with release notes on the site and the update feed for installed apps.
  • Licences of third-party code ship inside the app (third-party-notices.txt); every dependency allows commercial use.
  • Smaller and faster: release builds with link-time optimisation and without debug symbols; the server binary went from 15 to 6 MB.
  • Top bar without the grey corners around its rounded edges.
  • Plugins: a step-by-step guide to writing your own, and the plugin repository is now MIT licensed.

  • Plugins run inside the app: all 13 plugins are now WebAssembly modules run by HourWarden itself, sandboxed, instead of PowerShell scripts in a hidden process. Nothing runs scripts with the execution policy bypassed any more, which is what antivirus software objected to. Installed plugins are updated on the first start.
  • Each plugin only gets what its manifest lists: what it reads from the system (Outlook, Teams, the browser’s address bar, Office documents, the network, customer folders) goes through a small set of read-only capabilities of the app, and a plugin cannot read files, start programs or reach the network itself.
  • Plugins on Linux without PowerShell: the plugins that work on Linux no longer need PowerShell 7 installed.
  • Remote Desktop Manager no longer reads entries through the Devolutions PowerShell module; folders come from the tab names and the server from the remote desktop connection.
  • A plugin that hangs is stopped after a time limit and restarted, like one that crashes.

  • Settings in tabs: General, Tracking, Focus, Breaks and Backups instead of one long page. Searching still looks through all of them; the last tab is remembered.
  • Quotes that cheer you on: a quote of the day on the Today screen and one on every break screen, from people such as Seneca, Marcus Aurelius, Spinoza, Franklin and Van Gogh, each with where it comes from. Turn them off with Show quotes under Breaks.
  • Your own quotes: add them under Breaks, one per line (Keep going. — Grandma); they show up among the others.
  • Error messages of the new plugins are now in Dutch too.
